Introduction
- a low light, high ISO 10mp version of the Panasonic GH5 video-optimised stills camera
- coming in 2018
Specs
- 10mp over-sized multi-aspect sensor for native 16:9 imagery
- it is the 1st Micro Four Thirds camera to use 14bit RAW instead of 12bit RAW files
- unlike the Panasonic GH5 video-optimised stills camera it does NOT have sensor based image stabiliser
- magnesium alloy body is splashproof, dustproof, and freezeproof (down to -10°C or 14°F)
- 10fps in 14bit RAW, 12fps in 12 bit RAW
- Cinema 4K and regular 4K 50/60p video at 400Mbps (GH5 Cinema 4K is limited to only 24p)
- 4:2:2 10-Bit Long GOP, V-Log L Gamma (this is $100 extra on the GH5 but included with the GH5S) and HDR Hybrid Log Gamma
- no recording time limit
- highest internal recording is 400Mbps 4K at 30p (same as GH5)
- 240fps VFR video mode for slow motion video (GH5 can only do 120fps)
- as with the GH5, can do 4K anamorphic mode at up to 60p as well as the 4K Photo mode (8mp jpegs) up to 60fps
- the lower pixel count sensor means it CANNOT do the GH5 modes of:
- 6K anamorphic mode at up to 30p
- 6K Photo mode (18mp jpegs) up to 30fps
- Variable Frame Rate (VFR) feature that lets you record overcranked/undercranked video in C4K/4K (60 fps, maximum 2.5x slower in 24p) and FHD (240 fps, maximum 10x slower in 24p).
- Dual Native ISO (with low native ISO of 400 and high native ISO of 2,500) suppresses noise to produce cleaner footage when taken in low light.
- high ISO of 51,200, can be extended to 204,800 and unlike the GH5 which has a max, video of 12,800, video can use the entire range
- 225 AF points, can AF to -5EV
- DFD (Depth from Defocus) autofocus system provides speedy focusing in approximately 0.07s (but not as good as that on the GH5 which is 0.05s - although better in low light as works down to -5EV not -4EV as with the GH5)
- 3.68-million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder with a faster refresh rate of 120fps
- 3.2-inch, 1.62-million-dot, 120fps free-angle touchscreen
- dual UHS-II SD Slots
- Time Code IN/OUT (not available on the GH5) for easy synchronization of multiple cameras - works via the flash sync port (a cable is provided) which means you can genlock it with broadcast cameras
- Mic in port can also be used as a Line In for other audio sources
- AF Point Scope, and a 20x magnification ratio in MF assist (useful for astrophotography)
- $US2499 (GH5 is around $US2000)
