James LANE of Wreningham (my GGGG grandfather), Norfolk, England, married Sarah BATTLEDORE (b. 1754, d. 19/2/1800)
It seems that following the death of his wife, James LANE then remarried on 29th July 1800 to a Elizabeth ATKINS.
his grandson, my great, great grandfather, Robert LANE (1826-1904), his wife Susannah and his 6 children arrived in Australia in 1855 on the ill-fated maiden voyage of the luxurious "Shomberg" which was shipwrecked en route near Petersborough, Victoria, resulting in loss of all their furniture.
They were taken to Melbourne and to Tasmania on the "Ladybird" early 1856.
Robert settled in Longford, where he and Susannah reared 11 children.
interestingly, 2 descendants of Richard George AYTON (1823-86) of Longford married Lanes in Melbourne - could there be a link:
