Panasonic 7-14mm f/4 ultrawide zoom lens
introduction
- one of the 1st lenses designed for Micro Four Thirds system
- leverages the short lens flange distance of this system to create a much smaller, lighter and less expensive ultrawide zoom than is possible with dSLRs such as the Olympus ZD 7-14mm f/4 lens for Olympus Four Thirds dSLR system
- makes the ultimate in compact ultrawide travel lenses
- Panasonic is rumoured to be working on a re-design, perhaps to add OIS

- 16 elements in 12groups (2 Aspherical lenses, 4 ED lenses)
- close focus 0.25m 0.08x macro
- 75mm x 83mm (compare this with the Olympus ZD 7-14mm f/4 lens which is 87mm x 120mm and weighs 780g!)
- 10.6oz
- was $1099 but price has been reduced
reviews
-
- sharpest at 7-12mm
- sharper edge-to-edge than the Olympus m.ZD 9-18mm f/4.0-5.6 lens over the 9-12mm range and with less uncorrected CA but the Olympus is sharper at 14mm
- uncorrected distortion is 3.4% barrel at 7mm, almost zero at 12mm and 1.2% pincushion at 14mm. These, like the CA are corrected with Panasonic cameras autoimatically.
- “does a remarkably good job of dealing with flare”
