Longwood Recreation Reserve camp ground

see also:

  • Longwood as well as the local towns of Avenel and Euroa are subject to flooding from heavy rains in the Strathbogie Ranges which may impact the camp ground and road access in the region if major flooding occurs
    • fortunately it seems most of the flooding tends to occur on the south-west side of Longwood and the Depot Road tends not to flood, nevertheless, the camp ground is adjacent to a creek

Introduction

  • a trial community run camp ground opened in 2020
  • ~1.5hrs drive from N suburbs of Melbourne, between Seymour and Euroa on the Hume Freeway
  • camp only on the area west of all facilities (ie. SW of tennis courts and toilets) and not on the oval or in the car park itself
  • flush toilets but no showers
  • picnic shelter and table
  • not permitted to connect to water or power
  • fire pits in place, fires not permitted on the ground itself
  • as usual, don't camp under the old gum trees - risk of lethal branch drops
  • walking distance to pub (open Thu-Sun only) or general store (Open Mon-Fri 9-2pm 5-7pm)
  • donations are encouraged and welcomed to maintain and improve the Reserve.
    • there is a donation box next to the toilet basin or you can leave a donation at the White Hart Hotel, General Store or Rockery Gem Museum.
  • 72hr max stay
  • an option for an overnight resting point for those traveling to Melbourne from Sydney or Canberra
  • old ex-golf course on the reserve as well as a fenced playground, football oval, creek, dam, greyhound track and pony area
