yurt tents / ger

Introduction

a Central Asian / Mongolian yurt is a portable circular dwelling somewhat similar to a bell tent but is much more complex and solid in design:
- the walls are generally an expanding wooden lattice
- there is no centre pole but usually a central ceiling circular structure with supporting wooden poles and many ceiling curved wooden beams
- there is usually a wooden framed doorway
- they usually have a central wood fire
in general, these are too big, heavy and expensive for casual campers

these generally cost $10,000-$50,000 each!
if you build a deck to support a yurt then you may need a council planning permit, but otherwise you generally do not need a council permit as it is a “temporary structure” (but you should check!)
