Canon EOS R6
Introduction
- a long awaited full frame mirrorless camera from Canon which is essentially a full frame version of the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark III with some important differences, and it will compete against the Sony a7 III full frame mirrorless camera
- this is Canon's 1st camera ever (along with the Canon EOS R5 released at the same time) which has ALL the major features that I care about in a camera:
- relatively light
- excellent weathersealing
- sensor-shift image stabilisation
- minimal rolling shutter with usable video and electronic fast burst modes of 20fps with C-AF
- accurate and reliable eye tracking AF covering most of the frame
- rear swivel touch screen
- 4K video
- 1080HD video to 120p
- excellent ergonomics
- plus they have added a few nice extras which are expected in 2020:
- USB-C charging
- high resolution EVF albeit at the expense of battery life and price
- Bluetooth, WiFi
- animal eye AF tracking
Specs
- announced July 2020
- 20mp
- weathersealing same level as Canon 6DII
- “6-8EV” IBIS with dual sync with OIS lenses
- 12fps mechanical shutter burst rate
- 20fps electronic shutter burst rate
- no 8K video; no 4K 120p; no top LCD screen and thus unlike the r6 it does have the PASM dial; no N3 port;
- UHD 4K 60p covers 94% of width; 1080 120p; 10-bit 4:2:2 internal recording in either C-Log or HDR PQ
- zebra exposure warnings for 1st time on a Canon stills camera at last!
- 3,69mdot 0.76x EVF
- top LCD, 1.6mdot fully articulated rear screen, joystick, 2.4GHz WiFi only;
- 100% 1053 Dual Pixel AF II coverage with human and animal selectable eye, head, face AF tracking
- new LP-E6NH 2130mAh battery; dual SD card slots;
- inherits the ability to output 10-bit HDR HEIF files for stills and video from the 1D X Mark III
- opt. BGR10 dual battery grip works also on the R5.
- larger and heavier and battery life not as good as the Sony a7III (680g vs 650g);
- $US2500
