Canon FD lenses
introduction
- Canon FD lenses are manual focus lenses designed for Canon film SLRs before they changed to an AF-based EOS system in the late 1980's.
- the mount is a breech-lock and was updated to “new FD mount” which has a rotating barrel locking mechanism to make it less fiddly.
- They cannot be used on Canon EOS dSLRs (other than for macro work) unless an optical lens adapter is used to allow infinity focus.
- their main use now is on mirrorless camera systems and thus this page concentrates of prime lenses most likely to be used on these cameras
