Sunshine Coast - Fraser Island / K'gari region

- dingoes (wongari) - breed season March-May and there are some 100-200 on Fraser Island in around 20 packs - see Being dingo safe on Fraser Island
- don't walk alone especially to a rubbish bin - if need to toilet have someone stand guard
- don't go to rubbish bins at night
- don't jog or run it excites them and if a dingo approaches don't run, but face it and preferably carry a stick and keep yourself between the dingo and a child
- don't play with them
- don't keep food or backpacks in tents - use food stores at camp ground or keep in a car
- dingoes may tear a backpack from you
- if kids under 14yrs, use fenced camp grounds only
- there are on the spot fines up to $10,000 for getting too close or interacting with dingoes!
- croc country is anywhere north of Gladstone but may occasional come further south
- camp at least 50m from the water’s edge and at least 2m above the high water mark
- limit your time at the water’s edge when collecting water and don’t use the same spot repeatedly
- keep camp site clear of food scraps etc
- sand flies and mosquitoes can be problematic in certain areas especially near tidal sand flats and mangrove swamps

Moreton Island
- The Tangalooma Wrecks campground - short walk from ferry landing
North Stradbroke Island region
- Cylinder beach, Point lookout, Stradbroke Island - 60 unpowered sites. 8 powered
Bribie Island Nat Park, Caloundra
- need 4WD and/or boat
- limited amenities, no hot showers
- Poverty Creek, Ocean Beach, Lime Pocket, Mission Point and Gallagher Point camp sites
- highly recommend the fish and chips at Saviges Seafood - Bongaree - the snapper was massive and very nice indeed
Maroochydore area
- Cotton Tree Holiday Park on the north facing beach
- great for young families and grey nomads
- 93 powered and 29 non powered sites, sites are small and your neighbour will be close but at least there is a part for tents
- Ingenia Holidays Rivershore, Maroochy River
- glamping plus camping options
- Mooloolaba Holiday Park
- small CARAVAN site next to nice beach and shops - vans are crammed close together although usually able to set up an awning, and not really for tent camping - likely to be booked out
Coolum area

Noosa

- great for families, grey nomads and fishing
- 40 powered sites and 45 unpowered sites; coin operated showers;
Inskip Peninsula, Rainbow Beach, Tuan Forest
- 4WD access only?

- there are a few campsites that are accessible for 2WD eg SS Dorrigo and MV Sarawak
- others require 4WD eg. Natone and MV Beagle
- compost toilets, no water;
- option of both an unpatrolled surf beach or the more sheltered Pelican Bay, although sharks are common as for Fraser Island

Fraser Island / K'gari

- no mobile phone service
- 4WD access only unless you walk in a group
- north of Indian Head the crowds get thinner
- the trade-off for a more central position is access to the trifecta of Fraser Island attractions. You’re near Lake McKenzie, Eli Creek and the Maheno Wreck along with access to the Eurong Bakery in case you need to top up any bread, milk or bait supplies.

- Central Station camp ground - 44 sites
- Dundubara camp area - 42 sites
- Lake Boomanjin camping area - large open area no defined sites
- Waddy Point Top camping area - 25 tent sites plus 6 camper trailer sites
Camping in the hinterland

- is near the D’Aguilar National Park, Lake Somerset, and Stanley River

- part of the Jimna State Forest, located about 50kms north of Kilcoy

- hour east of Peaches Campgrounds and 20 minutes from the town of Kenilworth

- in the Conondale National Park, 20min from Charlie Moreland Campgrounds
- 4WD only and sites are 20m from vehicles; dense subtropical rainforest with waterfalls and gorgeous turquoise rock pools. Lots of sites; Booloumba Falls Walk which is a 3km circuit

- 100 acre camp site; water-frontage on a creek and direct access to the Mary River; hot showers!
