Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company

  • US company founded in 1898 by Frank Seiberling and based in Akron, Ohio and named after American Charles Goodyear (1800–1860), inventor of vulcanized rubber.

      • the Irish Dunlop Pneumatic Tyre Company, established the Dunlop Pneumatic Tyre Company of Australasia in Melbourne in 1893 but in 1899, it was sold to create a new Dunlop Pneumatic Tyre Company of Australasia which was then floated on the stock market and in 1906, name changed to the Dunlop Rubber Company of Australasia.

      • in the 1980's, Beaurepaires and Olympic Tyre & Rubber Co. join together with the Dunlop Group to form Dunlop & Olympic Tyres, then naming themselves Pacific Dunlop Ltd.
      • in the 1980's, Pacific Dunlop and Goodyear formed a joint venture that consolidated both companies tyre manufacturing operations in the Asia Pacific region named South Pacific Tyres, or SPT. SPT made tyres featuring the Dunlop, Goodyear and Olympic brands.
      • Pacific Brands was spun off from Pacific Dunlop in 2001 and this component was acquired by Hanesbrands in 2016
      • in 2002, Pacific Dunlop was renamed Ansell which maintained 50% ownership of South Pacific Tyres with Goodyear until 2006. SPT was closed in 2008 and changed to Goodyear and Dunlop Tyres in 2009.1)
